Missing marks: Six Questions Answered

1.      Who is responsible for booklets after the exams are done?
The examiners have full responsibility of the examination booklets after the exams. With this I think they have to keep them out of reach of rats and produce them when a problem arises with marks and someone needs evidence. These booklets need to be kept safely until several years after the students graduate.
2.      Is there something students sign to confirm that they have taken the examination?
Yes, there are forms that are signed to proof sitting of exams. In fact, these forms turns useless if they cannot be produced at this time when there are missing marks.
3.      Are there chances that students also contribute to missing marks?
Yes, there are. Some students do not write their details correctly. Others take examinations in rooms not designated for them. There are others who do examinations without registering the units and register it the following semester when the booklets have been piled up elsewhere. However, these are rare cases and their solution can be found by checking the signed forms and locating the booklets that are in the stores.
4.      Is it impossible for administrators to retrieve these booklets and forms when an issue arises with marks?
No, it is very possible. Only that some people don’t want to assume their responsibility.
5.      Is there a way this problem can be ended? How?
Yes, there is a way; collective responsibility.
6.      Is it possible for students to get back their booklets after marking?
Currently it is not. However, it is possible through collective responsibility of the affected. Requests can be made to relevant authorities. I don’t believe whether there is anything impossible so long as it promises justice, fairness and transparency.
