Job Interviews Again: Is there Hope for Success?

I cannot deny that Lady N was the source of my confidence for the day. With that warm approach and welcome to the interview room, I would not have acted like a chameleon on a feeble twig. I had planned…”Hello, I am Wycliffe. How are you?” But, this did not work because I was directed to a seat before I would speak anything.

Had I known earlier, I would have researched whether bank charges are among the entries that are corrected during the bank reconciliation process.  These are things I did and learnt several years. Psychologically, the human memory is divided into three parts: long-tem, medium-term and short-term. Anything that is read for examinations usually hides somewhere in the medium-term memory where it can easily escape out of the system after examinations, courtesy of the Kenyan education systems.

I walk down through Uhuru Park. Here, I recall Wangari Maathai, whose books were a hot cake in the international arena like US. she was even recognized by the so-called superpower president, but you know what? Prophets are never accepted in their hometown. Leave alone these men peeping trough thighs of high school girls riding boats in Uhuru Park dams. Leave alone these pedestrians closing roads amid vehicles when the street lights means stop. Ignore the line of unending supermarkets along Ronald Ngala Street.
Leave alone them all, even these people on phones while crossing roads and they are the first to say “tafadhali serikalini saidieni” after they are knocked down by their fellow careless drivers. These aside.

The greatest mistakes we job seekers do is to enter the interview room before we cram our CVs. A question comes from it, “Tell about yourself” and you cannot answer. Fortunate enough, the answer to these are somewhere down there in your CV where you have written “profile.” Additionally, failure to know the company is worst of all; at least this I was able to answer “one day” when I was asked. At least I learnt this today.

I am not a money seeker, but an experience seeker. There is a tiny difference between getting the job and not getting it; however, working with people is the greatest opportunity the company would offer to me. I would like to be diversified and work in other departments to know what goes on elsewhere. After all, what is an internship? It is the process of learning. I need to advance my marketing skills, management skills, public relations skills and other organizational functions. When the internship is offer, then I will comfortably settle down to one department, but this does not mean I stop being diversified.

Interviewees lose great opportunities of showing their capabilities when answering questions. In fact, I will never be too brief and straight to the point when asked questions. I will answer all the questions through life experiences and illustrations of what I did. For example, I could not be creative enough to reveal that I am committed to total quality management, and I write a blog on the same topic.

It is of less significance to extend a negative attitude towards the company if they fail to offer you a job. I will love always love it because of the great experience it offered me to learn additional interview skills. If I receive regret message, I will compensate my passion for the company by being a customer. This will enable me to interact with these nice people at British-American Insurance Company in order to observe total quality management cases, which I will transmit to future generations.
